Renewal & What Happens After Year One

Your Carat Club membership is valid for one year from the date you join. Here's what to expect as that year plays out:

• During the year: zero making charges apply to every eligible purchase, as many times as you buy. There's no cap on how much you can save.
• At the end of the year: to keep enjoying zero making charges on future purchases, simply renew your membership for another year.
• If you don't renew: you keep everything you've already bought and the lifetime warranty on those pieces; you'd just pay standard making charges on any new purchase until you rejoin.

What is a lab-grown diamond?

A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond. It is chemically, physically, and optically identical to a mined diamond: the same carbon crystal structure, same hardness, same fire, and sparkle. The only difference is origin: it's grown in a laboratory over a few weeks rather than formed under the earth over billions of years.

How are lab-grown diamonds made?

There are two established methods, and both produce genuine, gem-quality diamonds.

HPHT: High Pressure, High Temperature

HPHT recreates the conditions found deep inside the earth. A small diamond seed is placed in a chamber with a carbon source and a metal catalyst, then subjected to intense heat (around 1,300–1,600°C) and enormous pressure. The carbon crystallises onto the seed, growing a rough diamond over days to weeks. It's the older method and is especially good at producing larger, high-clarity stones.

CVD: Chemical Vapour Deposition

CVD takes a gentler route. A thin diamond seed sits in a sealed chamber filled with a carbon-rich gas such as methane, which is heated into a plasma. Carbon atoms settle onto the seed layer by layer, building the crystal upward over several weeks. CVD gives growers fine control over the conditions, which is why it's become so popular for consistent, high-quality stones.

Whichever method grows the rough stone, what happens next is identical to a mined diamond: it's assessed, cut, and polished by the same cutters using the same skills. The brilliance in the finished diamond comes down to the quality of that cut, exactly as it does with a natural diamond.
