A lab-grown diamond is a diamond. Not a simulant, not a substitute, not "diamond-like." How lab-grown diamonds are made

There are two methods, and Reia's stones are grown by both.

CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition): a thin diamond seed is placed in a sealed chamber filled with carbon-rich gas. The gas is heated until carbon atoms separate and settle onto the seed, layer by layer, building a diamond crystal over several weeks.

HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature): a diamond seed is placed with pure carbon under roughly 1.5 million pounds per square inch of pressure at around 1,500°C, the conditions that form diamonds naturally, recreated deliberately. The carbon crystallises around the seed.

A mined diamond formed the same way, roughly 150-250 km below the Earth's surface, over one to three billion years, then travelled up through volcanic activity. Same process, same result, radically different timescale.

Understanding Diamond Quality: The 4Cs

Diamonds are graded on four characteristics.

Cut is the one that matters most. Cut is not shape; it's how well the diamond's facets are proportioned and polished. A well-cut diamond bounces light back at you and looks alive; a poorly cut one looks dull even if large and clean. If you optimise one of the 4Cs, optimise cut, and look for the top grade Excellent on an IGI report.

Colour is how white the stone is: graded from D (completely colourless) down to Z (visibly tinted). Reia's house standard is E to F, which sits inside the colourless band (D to F), one step below the very top. Both grades read bright white in any light. In yellow or rose gold, you can comfortably go slightly lower without seeing tint, because the metal masks it.

A diamond is the hardest material used in jewellery, and a lab-grown diamond is exactly as hard as a mined one, 10 on the Mohs scale. What needs looking after is the gold around it and the security of the setting.

Cleaning at home

Every couple of weeks, soak the piece for 20 to 30 minutes in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap, then brush gently behind the stone with a soft toothbrush. That's where skin oils, lotion, and hairspray build up, and it's the reason a diamond looks dull long before it looks dirty. Rinse and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

When to take it off
