Round Cut Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings

Light behaves differently in a round brilliant. Fifty-seven facets, cut to angles refined over a century of optical mathematics, return more light to the eye than any other shape, which is why the round cut has held its place as the most requested engagement ring diamond for over eighty years, and why it remains the safest choice you can make for a ring meant to be worn every day for decades.

Certified lab-grown diamonds · BIS-hallmarked gold · Fancy-colour green centres with EF–VVS white accents · Free resizing & lifetime care · Cash on Delivery · Try them on in Bangalore, Coimbatore & Guwahati

Every round diamond in this collection is lab-grown, IGI or SDI certified, and set in BIS hallmarked gold. Same carbon, same hardness, same refractive index as a mined stone at a fraction of the price, which means the budget that buys a small mined solitaire buys a visibly larger stone here.

What Defines This Collection

Each ring pairs a round brilliant lab-grown diamond with a setting chosen for how it will actually live on a hand, not just how it photographs.

Settings available: Classic solitaire, halo, hidden halo, three-stone, pavé, micro pavé, side stone, flush set, cluster, and vintage-inspired.

Band styles: Twisted, tapered, split, double, criss cross, infinity, and eternity.

Metals: Yellow, white, and rose gold, all BIS hallmarked.

Design inspiration: The collection sits between two traditions: the restraint of a modern solitaire and the presence of Indian bridal jewellery expectations. This design philosophy is also reflected in Reia’s Signature Heritage Collection, which draws on traditional Indian jewellery influences through a contemporary lens. Rings are designed to be worn alongside wedding bands and stackable rings.

Ideal for: Proposals, engagement ceremonies, roka and sagai, anniversaries, and vow renewals.

Why Choose a Round Cut Diamond

The optics are not a matter of taste

Round brilliants are the only shape with a universally applied cut grade. Grading laboratories assess round diamonds on measured proportions: table percentage, crown angle, pavilion depth, and girdle thickness. Fancy shapes have no equivalent standard. When you buy an Excellent-cut round, you're buying a verified optical performance. When you buy an oval, you're trusting the vendor's photography.

Inclusions hide better

The facet pattern of a round brilliant scatters light so densely that small inclusions disappear to the naked eye far more readily than in a step-cut stone like an emerald cut or Asscher. This means you can safely buy a lower clarity grade in a round where a step cut would demand a meaningful cost difference at the same carat weight.

It suits every finger.

A round has no length-to-width ratio to get wrong. Ovals elongate short fingers but can look severe on long ones; pears and marquise need careful orientation. A round reads the same on every hand.

Resale and reset

Round is the most liquid diamond shape. If a stone is ever reset into a new design, or passed to a next generation, a round brilliant cuts more settings than any other shape. Reia's lifetime exchange and buyback programme covers upgrades on any Reia piece.

Everyday wearability

No points or corners to chip, which is why round dominates our daily wear engagement rings. Relevant if the wearer works with their hands, exercises, or simply doesn't want to remove the ring.

Diamond Quality Explained: The 4Cs

Cut is the only C you shouldn't compromise.

Cut determines how much light the diamond returns. Two stones of identical carat, colour, and clarity can look dramatically different if one is cut for weight retention rather than beauty. Always buy Excellent or Ideal.

Colour: where to stop paying

Colour is graded from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). D–F grades are considered colourless, while G–H fall into the near-colourless range. The difference between D and G is generally difficult to see face-up in a mounted ring. Reia’s standard across the collection is EF colour.

Prioritise the highest grades if you're setting in white gold; slightly warmer stones are perfectly safe in yellow or rose gold, where the metal reflects into the stone anyway.

Clarity: eye-clean is the real threshold

Clarity grades run FL, IF, VVS1–2, VS1–2, SI1–2, I1–3. In a round brilliant, inclusions above SI1 are essentially never visible without magnification. Reia's collection standard is VVS

Carat: the size/quality trade-off

Carat is weight, not size. A well-cut 1.00ct round measures about 6.5mm across; a poorly cut 1.10ct can measure the same or less while looking duller.

Practical tip: Buy just under the round-number thresholds. A 0.90ct costs meaningfully less than a 1.00ct, and the diameter difference is about 0.3mm, undetectable on a hand.

Engagement Ring Buying Guide

How much should you spend?

The "three months' salary" figure was a De Beers advertising line from 1947. It has no basis in anything.

Decide your number first, then optimise the 4Cs within it. Reia's engagement ring range is organised by budget, so you can start from the figure rather than the ring:

Choosing between diamond shapes

Round if you want maximum brilliance and the safest long-term choice. Oval if you want a finger-lengthening effect and more visible spread per carat. Emerald if the wearer prefers an architectural, understated design over sparkle. See the full comparison in the shape guide below.

Choosing a setting

Solitaire: Maximum light entry, maximum diamond visibility. Six prongs are more secure; four prongs show more stone.

Halo: A ring of small diamonds around the centre stone. Adds roughly 1.5–2mm of apparent size; a 0.70ct centre in a halo reads visually like a 1.00ct solitaire.

Hidden halo: The same lift, visible only from the side. Cleaner from above.

Pavé shank: Small diamonds along the band. Beautiful, but requires more careful cleaning and occasional re-tipping. Micro pavé is finer still.

Three-stone: Past, present, future. Substantial presence without a single large centre stone.

Flush set: Stone sits level with the band. The most protective option available in this collection, ideal for very active wearers.

Lifestyle considerations

Ask honestly: does she remove rings to wash hands, or never take them off? Does she work with her hands? A high-set solitaire on someone who rock climbs is a repair bill waiting to happen. A low-profile flush setting on someone who wants drama will disappoint. Browse the daily wear edit or the cocktail edit, depending on which side she falls.

Ring sizing

Indian sizes run 4–26. Fingers swell in heat and are smallest in the morning, so size to an afternoon measurement at normal temperature. If you're buying as a surprise, bring a ring she already wears on the correct finger; our advisors can size from it at any Reia store, or on a live video consultation.

METAL OPTIONS EXPLAINED

18KT Yellow Gold

75% pure gold. The traditional Indian choice and the most forgiving on warm skin tones. It requires no plating and ages gracefully.

Best for: Traditional aesthetics, warm skin tones, wearers with existing yellow gold jewellery.

18KT White Gold

Gold alloyed and rhodium plated for a bright white finish. The plating wears through with daily wear and needs to be redone periodically.

Best for: Buyers who want a cool-toned metal and don't mind periodic servicing.

18KT Rose Gold

Gold alloyed with copper. Warm pink tone, harder than yellow gold, and the most flattering against fair and olive skin.

Best for: Vintage-leaning designs, buyers who want something less common.

14KT vs 18KT

14KT is 58.5% gold, harder, more scratch-resistant, and less expensive. 18KT is 75% gold, richer colour, softer, and more valuable. For a ring worn daily, 14KT is the more practical alloy; 18KT is the more traditional one. Both are BIS hallmarked.

Diamond Shape Guide

Shape

Best For

Consideration

Round

Maximum brilliance, universal flattery, resale

Highest cost per carat; most rough is lost in cutting

Oval

Finger elongation, larger apparent size

Watch for the bow-tie shadow across the centre

Princess

Modern, geometric, good value

Corners are the vulnerable point; needs prong protection

Emerald

Understated elegance, art deco design

Step cuts show inclusions; buy a higher clarity grade

Cushion

Soft romantic look, vintage designs

Wide variation in cutting standards; compare in person

Pear

Distinctive, elongating, dramatic

Point needs a V-prong; orientation matters

Marquise

Maximum apparent size per carat

Two points to protect; bow-tie risk

Asscher

Art deco, hall-of-mirrors depth

Step cut; clarity matters most here

Heart

Romantic, distinctive

Needs symmetry and a well-defined cleft

Radiant

Brilliance of a round in a rectangular outline

Cut quality varies widely

Round costs more per carat than any other shape because cutting a round brilliant wastes roughly half the rough crystal. Fancy shapes retain more weight, which is why the bold cuts collection often delivers more visible size for the same spend.

Prefer colour? The Chromatique collection offers round-cut lab-grown diamonds in pink, blue, yellow, and green.

Proposal & Occasion Guide

The proposal. If you're buying without her knowing, focus on the centre stone and choose a simple solitaire. Settings can be changed later; a centre diamond you chose together is the harder thing to redo. See our return and exchange policy for the current window.

Roka and engagement ceremonies. Indian engagement ceremonies photograph the ring closely and from above. Halo and pavé settings read much larger in photographs than solitaires of equivalent carat.

Anniversaries. Five, ten, and twenty-five-year anniversaries are the most common upgrade points; see the anniversary edit and the lifetime exchange and buyback programme.

Vow renewals. Consider an eternity band or a wider design that reads as a deliberate second choice rather than a replacement.

Pairing. Every ring here has a companion in our wedding bands and stackable rings collections, plus coordinating pendants, earrings, and bracelets for a complete bridal set.

Ring Care Guide

Weekly cleaning at home. Warm water, a few drops of unscented dish soap, soak for 20 minutes, brush gently behind the stone with a soft toothbrush, rinse, pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Most of the dullness people mistake for a diamond losing sparkle is skin oil and soap film on the pavilion.

Avoid: Chlorine, bleach, and ultrasonic cleaners on pavé settings. Remove before swimming, gym sessions, gardening, and applying lotion.

Storage. Diamonds scratch everything, including other diamonds. Store separately in a soft pouch or a lined box compartment, not loose in a jewellery tray.

Professional inspection. Every 6–12 months. Loose prongs are the single most common cause of stone loss and are almost always catchable at an annual check. Reia offers complimentary cleaning, prong tightening, and resizing. Book an appointment at any store.

Direct Answers

What is an engagement ring?
A ring given at the point of proposal or engagement, traditionally worn on the fourth finger, most commonly featuring a single diamond as its centre stone.

Which diamond shape is most popular?
Round brilliant, accounting for the majority of engagement ring sales globally, followed by oval.

What metal is best for engagement rings?
Yellow gold requires no maintenance and suits warm skin tones; white gold needs periodic rhodium re-plating; rose gold is harder than yellow and flatters fair and olive skin. All three are available in 14KT and 18KT.

How do I choose the right engagement ring?
Set a budget, prioritise cut grade above all other Cs, choose a setting that matches the wearer's daily life, then optimise colour and clarity with whatever remains.

What is the difference between natural and lab-grown diamonds?
Chemically, physically, and optically identical, both are pure crystallised carbon with a hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale. The only difference is origin: one forms in the Earth's mantle over billions of years, the other in a controlled reactor over weeks. Lab-grown diamonds cost substantially less at the same size and quality.

Closing

An engagement ring is one of the very few objects you'll buy once and wear for fifty years. That's worth getting right, not worth rushing.

Talk to a Reia advisor before you buy. Twenty minutes with someone who does this every day will save you from the two mistakes we see most often: overpaying for clarity nobody can see, and choosing a setting that doesn't fit the way she actually lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes, lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They are pure crystallised carbon with the same cubic crystal structure, the same 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, and the same 2.42 refractive index as mined diamonds. The only difference is origin: one forms in the Earth's mantle over billions of years, the other in a controlled reactor over a matter of weeks.

2. How can you tell a lab-grown diamond from a natural diamond?

You cannot tell them apart by eye, with a jeweller's loupe, or with a standard diamond tester. Identification requires specialised laboratory equipment that reads trace elements and crystal growth patterns. Every Reia lab-grown diamond is IGI or SDI certified, so its origin is documented rather than guessed at.

3. What is the best diamond shape for an engagement ring?

The round brilliant is the best all-round choice. It has 57 facets that return more light to the eye than any other shape, and it is the only shape graded on a standardised cut scale, so an Excellent cut grade means a verified optical result rather than a vendor's opinion. Browse round cut engagement rings.

4. How much should you spend on an engagement ring in India?

There is no correct figure; the "three months' salary" rule was a De Beers advertising line from 1947, not a financial guideline. Shop under ₹40K, ₹40K–₹90K, ₹90K–₹1.5L, or above ₹1.5L.

5. Is white gold or yellow gold better for an engagement ring?

Neither is objectively better; the difference is maintenance. White gold is rhodium-plated and needs periodic re-plating as the finish wears; yellow and rose gold never need plating. Choose by skin tone and by what she already wears.

6. How do I find out her ring size without asking?

Borrow a ring she already wears on the correct finger and take it to a Reia store, or trace its inner circle and share the tracing on a video consultation. Indian ring sizes run from 4 to 26. Measure in the afternoon at normal temperature; fingers are smallest in the morning and swell in heat.

7. What certification do Reia's diamonds come with?

Every Reia lab-grown diamond is certified by IGI or SDI, and every gold component carries a BIS hallmark with a six-digit HUID. The certificate documents cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight for the centre stone.

8. Do lab-grown diamonds hold their value?

Lab-grown diamonds have lower resale value than mined stones because production costs continue to fall. If resale is a priority, this is a real consideration. Reia's lifetime exchange and buyback programme offsets it by crediting your ring against a future upgrade.

9. Are lab-grown diamonds accepted for engagements in India?

Yes, and increasingly so. Adoption has risen sharply among Indian buyers, driven by the ability to choose a visibly larger, higher-quality stone at the same budget as a smaller mined diamond.

10. Can engagement rings be customised at Reia?

Yes. You can specify carat weight, colour, clarity, metal, karat, setting style, band width, and engraving. Reia's in-house team also builds fully bespoke rings from a sketch or a Pinterest reference. Start a custom design.

11. How long does a custom engagement ring take to make?

Reia's customisation service delivers many designs in 7 days. Fully bespoke and made-to-order pieces are quoted individually depending on complexity and stone availability. Confirm your timeline on a call.

12. Are round-cut diamonds good for everyday wear?

Round-cut diamonds are the most durable shape for daily wear. Unlike princess, pear, or marquise cuts, a round brilliant has no corners or points, the places where diamonds chip. Pair it with a low-profile or flush setting for maximum protection. See the daily wear collection.

13. What clarity grade should you buy in a round diamond?

Eye-clean is the practical threshold; the round brilliant's dense facet pattern conceals small inclusions far more effectively than step cuts like emerald or Asscher. Reia's standard across this collection is VVS, which is clean under 10x magnification, not just to the naked eye.

14. What diamond colour grade should you buy?

Reia sets EF colour as standard across the collection. Colour matters most in white metal, where there is no warm reflection to mask a tint; in yellow or rose gold, slightly warmer stones look identical face-up.

15. What carat size looks best on the hand?

For most hands, 1.00 to 1.50 carats reads as substantial without looking oversized. A well-cut 1.00ct round measures approximately 6.5mm in diameter. Carat is weight, not width; a poorly cut heavier stone can measure smaller and look duller than a lighter, well-cut one.

16. Should you buy a diamond just under 1 carat?

Usually yes. A 0.90ct round costs meaningfully less than a 1.00ct because pricing jumps at round-number thresholds, yet it measures only about 0.3mm smaller, a difference no one can see on a hand.

17. What does a halo setting do?

A halo surrounds the centre stone with small diamonds, adding roughly 1.5 to 2mm of apparent diameter. A 0.70ct centre stone in a halo setting reads visually like a 1.00ct solitaire. A hidden halo sits beneath the stone, adding sparkle from the side while keeping the top view clean.

18. Which engagement ring setting is most secure?

A flush setting is the most secure, because the stone sits level with the band with no exposed edges. Among open settings, six prongs hold more securely than four; four prongs show more of the diamond; six protect it better.

19. Can you wear an engagement ring with other rings?

Yes. Reia makes matching wedding bands and stackable rings designed to sit flush against the engagement ring without rubbing, plus coordinating pendants, earrings, and bracelets for a complete bridal set.

20. How do you clean a diamond ring at home?

Soak the ring for 20 minutes in warm water with a few drops of unscented dish soap, brush gently behind the stone with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Most of the dullness people mistake for a diamond losing sparkle is skin oil and soap film on the underside. Avoid chlorine, bleach, and ultrasonic cleaners on pavé settings.

21. What is Reia's return and exchange policy?

Reia accepts returns and exchanges under the terms set out on the return and exchange page. Custom and engraved pieces are treated differently from ready-to-ship items; check the current window before ordering.

22. Does Reia offer Cash on Delivery?

Yes, Cash on Delivery is available on Reia orders. Get in touch to arrange it before placing your order.

23. Is Reia's gold BIS hallmarked?

Yes. All Reia gold is BIS hallmarked with a six-digit HUID, covering both 14KT and 18KT pieces across every metal colour.

24. What is the Reia Carat Club?

The Carat Club is a paid membership that removes making charges on every piece you commission during the membership term, you pay only for the metal and the diamonds. See membership details.

25. Can you see the ring in person before buying?

Yes. Reia has flagship stores and ring studios in Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Guwahati. If you cannot visit, book a live video consultation; an advisor holds each piece on camera so you can compare them before deciding.
